The growing beer industry and beer culture are so exciting, and hopefully in the upcoming weeks we will cover much of it right here.
It’s an exciting time to be a beer fan. The choices are seemingly endless and there’s a good selection of high-quality brews at nearly every restaurant, pub or wine and spirits store.
Just a short while ago, it wasn’t this way. In college, I thought I didn’t like beer! It was a different time, our cell phones were just phones, and our beers were just Miller Lite and Natty. I once went to a party where there was a keg of Blue Moon. Everyone thought these were some classy kids. I remember discovering Yuengling Porter at a pub and being blown away. That was the start for me, and I was growing up at the right time.
Here we are years later, smart phones are a thing. And thanks to a beer-tracking app called Untappd, I can tell you that I’ve had the opportunity to try more than 900 different brews. My wife and I have visited dozens of breweries; not just here in Maryland, but also DC, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina and California.
So, let’s talk about beer! In the upcoming weeks, we’ll cover beer styles, breweries and brewfests, our favorite brewpubs, cooking with beer and even a beginners’ guide – where to start if you’re new to craft beer. Follow me on Twitter and Snapchat @therealeshirk. Talk to me about your favorite brews, tell me what breweries you like to visit, and share beer pictures. I’m going to do all of that and more.
