University of Maryland Extension (UME) Hops Team. At the University of Maryland Experiment Station in Keedysville, a hops variety trial has been established in an effort to support the new and rapidly growing brewing industry in the state. The hops trial includes 1/4 acre, containing 12 varieties replicated three times. The UME Hops Team looks forward to working closely with growers and brewers to meet the needs of the industry. We look forward to providing research-based information, and focus our efforts with guidance from the industry, to ensure that we are conducting the most relevant research possible.
