Brewery members have likely been contacted by performance rights organizations (PROs) insisting that a license be obtained to cover royalties of music played or performed. The PROs include ASCAP, BMI, SESAC and SoundExchange. Musicians register with various PROs to protect their rights, and the PROs seek royalty licenses from public performance spaces to pay their artists. The law is on the side of the PROs… if you play commercial music in your taproom—or allow to live music to be performed—you are liable for a obtaining licenses from PROs.
