Maryland Breweries To Kick Off FeBREWary With Women-Brewed Collaborative Release
Denizens Brewing Co. hosted women from ten breweries to brew beer celebrating women’s role in the state’s brewing industry
(ANNAPOLIS, MD) – Women representing ten Maryland breweries gathered at Denizens Brewing Co. in early January to brew a collaborative beer. Called “Suffragette Stout,” this limited-release stout recipe includes local malt, lactose, and chocolate. The beer was brewed to celebrate women in Maryland’s brewing industry and highlights the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in the United States. Denizens Brewing Co. will tap this beer at their Silver Spring location on January 31, 2020 and anticipates its availability at key accounts in their distribution network. This tapping is part of an event kicking off FeBREWary, Maryland Craft Beer Lovers Month.
“At Denizens Brewing Co. we are always proud to support causes that bring forth opportunity and equality for women. The creation of Suffragette Stout has helped build further comradery amongst Maryland breweries and the women who play an important role in their success,” said JulieVerati, Chief Brand Officer and co-founder of Denizens Brewing Co. “We’re beyond excited to join forces and celebrate the Year of the Woman with Maryland craft beer fans throughout FeBREWary. We’re dedicated, unified, and know there is still lots of work to do.”
The women collaborating during the brew day were owners, operators, and production team members representing Astro Lab Brewing, B.C. Brewery, Brawling Bear, Calvert Brewing Company, Checkerspot Brewing, Denizens Brewing Company, Manor Hill Brewing, Milkhouse Brewery, Mully’s Brewery, and Ten Eyck Brewing.
“FeBREWary is a wonderful time to celebrate this great industry and to educate Maryland Craft Beer Lovers about the number of women who play critical roles in their favorite breweries throughout the state,” says Sarah Healey, President of the Brewers Association of Maryland and General Manager of Milkhouse Brewery. “During the Year of the Woman, the Brewers Association of Maryland is proud to recognize the incredibly talented women in key positions throughout our membership. These women have a hand in every aspect of our industry from the brewhouse, to sales and marketing and all levels of leadership.”
Following Governor Hogan’s declaration that 2020 is the Year of the Woman in Maryland, the Brewers Association of Maryland will unveil a beer trail honoring women in the industry. This new attraction features breweries in the state where women play prominent roles. Governor Hogan is expected to issue a formal proclamation that FeBREWary is Maryland Craft Beer Lovers Month.
As part of its annual FeBREWary celebration, the Brewers Association of Maryland will present Love Thy Beer at the Silver Spring Civic Center on Friday, February 14, 2020. This sampling showcase of winter beer styles features limited-release lagers and ales from more than two dozen breweries from throughout the state. Attendees enjoy live music, samples of local fare, and the opportunity to talk with brewery representatives.
