America’s craft beer history began nearly 200 years ago in 1829 when D.G. Yuengling & Son was founded in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. Not only was it the state’s first craft brewery, but it was America’s first brewery as well. According to the Brewers Association, to this day, D.G. Yuengling & Son qualifies as a craft brewer.
Since 1829, the country’s fondness for craft beer has gradually increased. Over the past decade, however, the craft brewing business has experienced unprecedented growth. In 2011, for example, there were roughly 2,000 craft breweries in the United States. By 2021, that number grew to over 9,000.
