Liquidity Aleworks Clinches Top Honors at the 2023 Maryland Craft Beer Competition
[BALTIMORE, MD – November 6] – Liquidity Aleworks, a prominent craft brewery based in Mt. Airy, Maryland, has emerged as the triumphant Best-In-Show winner at the prestigious 2023 Maryland Craft Beer Competition. Their award-winning beer, “Three Minutes Later,” earned both a coveted gold medal but also seized the title of Best-In-Class in the “American Cream Ale or Lager” category before being named the competition’s best entry.
“Three Minutes Later has been a staff favorite since we released it,” said Billy Deavers, a co-founder at Liquidity Aleworks. “It’s an awesome beer and we’re blown away that it was named Best-In-Show. The brewery has been a long-time dream for us and this is our first year entering the competition; to be mentioned alongside so many awesome breweries in Maryland is an honor. This trophy will make a great centerpiece during our upcoming first anniversary.”
The Maryland Craft Beer Competition Cup was presented to Liquidity Aleworks at the Baltimore Craft Beer Festival, held at Baltimore’s picturesque Canton Waterfront Park on November 4. The festival, an annual celebration of the state’s vibrant craft beer scene, provided the perfect backdrop for this amazing victory. ”Three Minutes Later” satisfied the judges with its notable balance of flavors and expert craftsmanship. This win is a testament to Liquidity Aleworks’ commitment to producing top-tier, great-tasting beers.
Liquidity Aleworks wasn’t the only brewery to shine at the competition. The first runner-up for the Best-In-Show title was Rock Bottom Brewing Company, located in Bethesda. Their entry, “Whiskey Barrel Aged Atom Smasher,” a unique barrel-aged strong ale, not only secured a gold medal at the Maryland Craft Beer Competition but also earned a gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival earlier this year.
Taking the second runner-up spot was Silver Branch Brewing Co. from Silver Spring, who impressed the judges with their classical Saison, “Beyond the Gnome World.” This exceptional beer initially claimed top honors in the French & Belgian-style Saison category before being added to the Best-In-Show slate.
This year’s Maryland Craft Beer Competition featured 222 total entries from breweries located throughout the state. The competition showcased the extraordinary talent and creativity of Maryland’s craft beer community, underscoring the industry’s flourishing growth and commitment to beer quality.
“This competition continues to represent great, locally crafted beer,” said Kelly Dudeck, the acting executive director of the Brewers Association of Maryland. “Each year we’re thrilled to see well-made entries from these local breweries. All of the competition’s medalists should be honored knowing that judges consider their beers among the best produced in the state.”
Liquidity Aleworks, as the Best-In-Show winner, has now added its name to the growing list of Maryland breweries that are celebrated for their excellence. This victory exemplifies the dedication and passion that Maryland’s craft brewers bring to their art.
Initial judging in the 2023 Maryland Craft Beer Competition, organized by the Brewers Association of Maryland, occurred on Saturday, October 21. 1623 Brewing Company, located in Eldersburg, Maryland, hosted more than 40 judges, beer stewards and competition staff for the judging session. 59 beers received medals across 20 different style categories.
