Our own Montgomery County Council is on the verge of making a change to benefit local farm alcohol producers (wine, beer, cider, mead, spirits) while protecting the rural character of the Agriculture Reserve. It’s a good bill…a model for Maryland.
But it stalled yesterday.
“If anybody up here wonders why we get a bad rap from the agricultural community or the business community, welcome to the County Council,” Councilmember Nancy Floreen said.
Councilmembers Sidney Katz and Nancy Navarro asked that the bill be delayed even further (further, further) to study the issue. It’s time to vote. The studies have been done and Virginia is winning.
Council President Hans Riemer plans a vote in two weeks.
