It is with great sadness that the Brewers Association of Maryland recognizes the loss of one of its own.
Dr. Sean McCagh, a co-founder of Cumberland’s 1812 Brewery, passed away this morning from complications related to COVID-19. A staple in his local community, Sean teamed up with his son Cory to open Cumberland’s first craft brewery and added Allegany County to the growing list of great beer destinations in Maryland. Aside from his work nurturing a community of craft beer fans in the area, Sean was a prominent figure who is remembered for founding the Hooley Plunge, benefiting the Special Olympics of Allegany County, and for his work as a local physician.
As an active member of the Brewers Association of Maryland, Sean brought a spirit of enthusiasm and comradery to our organization. We send our condolences to the McCagh family and Sean’s friends and neighbors in Allegany County.
Please remain vigilant and follow all mask and physical distancing guidance related to COVID-19.
